Scripture Reading: Acts 9:1-6
Lord, What Do You Want Me To Do?
Intro.
1. Saul’s encounter with Jesus compelled Saul to ask a fundamental question: “Lord, what do you want me to do?” Acts 9:6
2. Jesus often told people what they had to do to be blessed by God.
3. By examining some of those events we can learn things the Lord wants us to do.
I. “LAUNCH OUT...LET DOWN YOUR NETS...”, Lk. 5:1-11.
A. Jesus was Looking for Faith, not Fish, 5:4.
1. Faith to act at his word, 5:5; Lk. 6:46.
2. Faith is rewarded, 5:6-7.
3. Faith is contrite before Christ, 5:8. The humility of Peter.
B. Jesus Wants Disciples Who Will “Catch” Men, 5:10-11.
1. A disciple forsakes all to follow Jesus, 5:11.
2. Faith to use the word of Christ (5:5) to save the lost, Jude 23.
3. Let us be more active reaching out to the lost with humble faith.
II. “GO AND SELL ALL YOU HAVE...GIVE TO THE POOR...FOLLOW ME”, Matt. 19:16-22.
A. Jesus was Looking for a Heart that Would Repent and be Completely Devoted to Him, 19:21. Lk. 13:3, 5
1. Heart must change toward Jesus (he is God), 19:16-17.
2. Heart must change toward God’s commands and our sin, 19:17-20; Rom. 3:23.
3. Heart must change toward self and toward others, 19:21-22.
4. Heart must change toward things (treasures) and priorities (follow Jesus), 19:21-22.
B. Jesus Wants Humble Sacrifice from Disciples, Matt. 19:23-30.
1. Leave materialism, 19:23-26. 1 Tim. 6:9-10
2. Leave “all”, 19:27-28. Gal. 2:20
3. Reward of humble sacrifice, 19:29-30. Phil. 2:5-11
4. Is this reflected in our giving? (1 Cor. 16:2)
III. “TELL WHAT GREAT THINGS GOD HAS DONE FOR YOU”, Lk. 8:38-39.
A. Jesus is Pleased when We Confess Him to Others, Lk. 8:39; Matt. 10:32-33; Mk. 8:38.
1. Acknowledge that Jesus is the Son of God, 8:39; Matt. 16:15-16.
2. Must confess Jesus to be saved, Rom. 10:9-10.
3. Confess the good confession to also try to save others, Lk. 8:39; 1 Tim. 6:12-13.
IV. “GO, WASH IN THE POOL OF SILOAM”, Jno. 9:7 (10-11).
A. Jesus Says Go to the Water and be Baptized, Mk. 16:16.
1. Washing, Eph. 5:26.
2. Washing of regeneration, Tit. 3:5.
3. Washing of sin, 1 Pet. 3:21; Acts 22:16.
B. “What Shall We Do?” Acts 2:37-41
1. The blind man did not see until he did what Jesus said to do.
2. The sinner is not saved until he/she does all that Jesus says to do to be saved.
V. “COME TO ME...” Matt. 11:28-30
A. Learn and Live: The Essence of Discipleship, Eph. 4:20-24, 25-32.
1. Put sin to death, Rom. 13:11-13 (Col. 3:5).
2. Put on the Lord, Rom. 13:14.
a. Priority, Matt. 6:33.
b. Love Jesus, Jno. 14:15, 23.
VI. “GO AND MAKE DISCIPLES OF ALL THE NATIONS”, Matt. 28:19-20.
-Teach, baptize, teach, Acts 2:41, 42; 8:4, 12; 11:24-26; 2 Tim. 2:2.
Conclusion
1. God speaks to us by Jesus, Heb. 1:2.
2. Do not refuse Him, Heb. 12:25.
3. Do what the Lord tells you to do, Matt. 7:24-25; Col. 3:23.
