AT THE FEET OF JESUS
Intro.
1. Acts 10:24-26; Rev. 19:10 - To fall at the feet of men or angels is to
assign unworthy positions of veneration & honor to either. {To subject oneself to the
disposal of another; render homage or worship.}
2. But, to fall at the feet of Jesus is entirely appropriate & timely - Lk. 5:8; Matt.
28:9.
3. During Jesus' life on earth we find many people "at His feet" worshipping,
learning, receiving healing & comfort - Blessings that only He can give. We must be at
His feet daily, too!
I. UNFORTUNATE SUFFERERS - Matt. 15:29-31 (v. 30).
A. We May Suffer Through No Fault Of Our Own - Eccl. 9:2, 11.
1. Jno. 9:1-3 - It is an opportunity for God to work in our life!
2. Jas. 1:2-4 - Time for faith to be challenged & grow!
3. 2 Cor. 12:7-10 - Time to live your faith, hope & love for God.
4. cf. Mk. 5:25-34 - Woman had enough to faith to reach out to Jesus,
then to fall down before Him in worship & honor Him.
5. Be raised to new heights when you suffer - Jesus is near!
II. AN AFFLICTED FATHER - Mk. 5:22-23, 35-42.
A. A Father's Devotion & Faith In The Face Of Despair.
1. 5:22-23 - Jairus' humility to help child is impressive.
a. Never turn away from God - Always hope (Heb. 13:5-6).
b. 2 Cor. 12:14 - Constant desire of parents.
2. Pray for your children to the Lord (cf. 5:36, 40-42 - Faith
rewarded).
III. A SORROWING MOTHER - Mk. 7:24-26.
A. A Mother's Persistent Faith - 7:26-28 (Matt. 15:22-27).
1. Mothers: Remove obstacles to help their children.
-Again see humility & dependency approaching the Lord!
2. A mother's love never wavers - Constancy (Lk. 2:35):
a. During Jesus' work - Mt.12:46-50.
b. At the cross - Jno.19:26.
c. Mary after the ascension - Acts 1:14.
3. Mothers: Serve your families w/o wavering (Prv. 31:27). Jesus will
help you achieve this lofty goal!
IV. A SINFUL WOMAN - Lk. 7:37-38.
A. Her Shame & Sorrow For Sin Caused Her To Fall At Jesus' Feet.
1. 7:47-48 - Forgiven (cf. Acts 2:37-38, 41).
2. Isa. 66:2 - God blesses those smitten by their sin!
B. A Life Of Faith Followed Her Forgiveness - Lk. 7:50.
-Go in peace - A life of peace (not sin) follows (Eph. 2:14).
V. A HEALED DEMONIAC - Lk. 8:35.
A. His Presence Showed His Thankfulness (cf. Lk. 17:15-19).
1. Our thankfulness for healing from sin (etc.) must bring us to Jesus'
feet!
2. 8:35 - Those in their "right mind" still sit at Jesus'
feet! - Jno. 6:68
VI. A TRUTH-SEEKER - Lk. 10:39, 40-42.
A. No Better Place To Be!
1. Only His words set us free from the distractions of everyday life
(10:40). Matt. 6:33 (cares of life); Jno. 8:31-32 (sin).
a. Freedom from anxiety - Psa. 119:105 (clear conscience).
b. Freedom from sin - Jno. 8:34.
VII. A BEREAVED SISTER - Jno. 11:32.
A. In Death, Jesus Is An Abiding Comfort To His People - Jno. 11:25-26.
1. Knowledge of the future & His presence & power comforts us -
1 Ths. 4:13-18.
2. His promises assure us - Jno. 14:1-6.
VIII. A REVERENT WORSHIPPER - Rev. 1:17-18.
A. Because He Is God - 1:17; cf. Isa. 44:6. (Attributes: Pure, holy, mighty, truth
- 1:13-16).
B. Because He Has Power Over Death - 1:18.
1. 1 Cor. 15:19-21 - Resurrection assured.
2. 1 Cor. 15:55-57 - He overcame sin - Death has no power over us!
Conclusion
Are you at the feet of Jesus, my friend? If not, why aren't
you?
