The Fair-Weather Christian
Intro.
1. Definition - “An action is dependent on something" (Profitable/ Pleasant). Think of golfing in the sun vs. golfing in bad weather.
2. Fair-Weather everything exists, spiritually too.
3. Are you a fair-weather Christian?
I. THE FAIR-WEATHER CHRISTIAN:
A. Waits for opportune times; Not found in Heb. 10:25; 2 Peter 3:18; Mark 16:15-16
B. Doesn’t have the correct priorities: “If things were more pleasant, I would come.”
C. Is dedicated when it is right for them, Not the example found in Eph. 6:10; Psa. 118:14
D. Is not fully invested, like the lukewarm church, Rev. 3:14-22
E. Puts their desires above God’s, not the example found in Psa. 133:3; Phil. 2:9-11
F. Shows an obvious lack of dedication, as opposed to Matt. 22:37-38; Gal. 2:20
G. Quits when things get hard. We must have some Spiritual-stick-to-itiveness, Gal. 6:9; 2 Thess. 3:13; Josh. 1:9
II. THE FOUL-WEATHER CHRISTIAN:
A. Are not at God’s service, He is at theirs
B. “When I need You, I’ll find you.”
C. When things are good, God is not present in his mind. God must be present in our lives all the time! Psa. 16:8
III. THE ALL-WEATHER CHRISTIAN:
A. Will not be shaken in the storm, 2 Pet. 3:14-18
B. Will keep God as their number one priority, Matt. 6:33
C. Will not let bad weather stop them, Jas. 1:12
D. Will remain constant throughout, Gal. 6:9
E. Is a role model for all Christians, 1 Tim. 4:12; Matt. 5:6
