The Word of the Cross

 

 

Intro.

1.  The word (message) of the cross (1 Cor. 1:18-25): Gospel (Rom. 1:16).

2.  Foolish to the perishing / Power of God to those being saved.

3.  Christ crucified: Power and wisdom of God, 1:23-24; 2:1-5.

 

I.   WORDS OF THE CROSS.

  A.  Death (crucifixion), Lk. 23:33; 1 Pet. 2:24; Gal. 3:13.

      -Sacrifice, Phil. 2:5-8; Lk. 9:23

 

  B.  Love, Jno. 3:16; 15:13; Rom. 5:6-8.

      -Love one another, 1 Jno. 4:7-11

 

  C.  Obedience, Phil. 2:8; Heb. 5:8-9.

      -Love Jesus, Jno. 14:15 (31); Friend (familiar companion) of Jesus, Jno. 15:14

 

  D.  Salvation, Acts 4:10-12; Rom. 5:9-10.

      -Obtained through baptism, Mk. 16:16; Rom. 6:3-4; Col. 2:12

      -Wash away your sins, Acts 22:16

 

  E.  Life, Lk. 23:43 (paradise); Lk. 23:46 (Receive my spirit).

      -Newness of life, Rom. 6:4; Eph. 2:1, 5

 

Conclusion

1.  Is the message of the cross foolishness to you? Or, is it the power and wisdom of God? 1 Cor. 1:21
