Scripture Reading: John 7:10-18

The Word of Christ

Intro.

1.  Jesus is viewed by many as a good man and great teacher whose teachings altered the course of history...but Jesus is not the Son of God. Matt. 16:13-14

  a.  Judaism: Son of Mary, great teacher, miracle worker, claimed to be Messiah but was not...

  b.  Islam: "one of the great messengers and prophets of Allah to the Children of Israel" but not the begotten son of God (Surah 19:88-92). (Such is a "monstrous" thing to say)

  c.  Hinduism: A holy man, a wise teacher, "a" God; one of many “ishtas” (forms of the divine) in the history of mankind.

2.  How Jesus is viewed directly affects how the Bible is viewed: As wisdom from a man, as the opinions and philosophies of a man, as the word of God, as optional or definitive, etc., Jno. 7:46-49.

-God's truth is in Jesus, Eph. 4:20-21.

II.  THE WORD OF CHRIST IS THE FINAL STANDARD FOR OUR LIVES.

  A.  Bible: Thoroughly Equips Us to Do God's Will, 2 Tim. 3:16-4:4; 2 Pet. 1:2-4; Titus 2:11-12.

  B.  Jesus: The Ultimate Example, 1 Cor. 11:1; 1 Pet. 2:21; 1 Jno. 2:6.

  A.  Bible, Eph. 3:1-5; 2 Pet. 3:18.

  B.  Jesus: Acts 8:35; 1 Cor. 1:23; 2:2.

-Abide in Christ's word...Know the truth and be free, Jno. 8:31-32.

IV.  THE NEW TESTAMENT FULFILLS THE OLD TESTAMENT.

  A.  Bible: 2 Tim. 3:15; Gal. 3:19-25.

  B.  Jesus: Matt. 5:17; Lk. 24:44-48.

     -Listen to Jesus, Acts 3:22-26.

  B.  Jesus, Jno. 5:30.

-Judge what is right, Lk. 12:54-57 (Jno. 7:24).

Conclusion

1.  How are you viewing and using the words of Christ? As your guide and path to God? As good sayings without relevance in your life?

2.  What we do with His words will echo in eternity, Jno. 12:48-50.
