A Time to Remember

 

Intro.

1.  A time to remember, Eccl. 3:1.

2.  Remember: "To call to mind...to remind oneself of...to be mindful of" (Vine); Keep in mind, keep in memory, always thoughtful of.

3.  Bible tells us a number of things to remember.

 

I. REMEMBER YOUR CREATOR, Eccl. 12:1.

  A.  God has Remembered You (kept you in mind):

    1.  In creation, Psa. 8:4-9.

    2.  In the blessings of life, Acts 17:28 (14:15-17); Jas. 1:17.

    3.  In planning redemption before creation, Eph. 1:3-7; 1 Tim. 2:3-4.

  B.  In Your Youth to Avoid the Hardening of Years, Eccl. 12:1.

      -Children: Put God first, cf. Lk. 2:42, 49.

 

II.  REMEMBER THE WORDS OF CHRIST, Acts 20:35; Jno. 15:20.

  A.  Reasons to “Keep in Mind" Christ’s words:

    1.  He is the Word, the Truth, Jno. 1:1; 14:6.

    2.  Frees, Jno. 8:31-32.

    3.  Cleanses, Jno. 15:3.

    4.  Sanctifies, Jno. 17:15-17.

    5.  Judges, Jno. 12:48.

  B.  Means We Spend Time with the Word, 2 Tim. 2:15; 1 Pet. 2:2; Psa. 119:15-16.

 

III.  THE GOSPEL THAT WAS PREACHED, 1 Cor. 15:1-4.

  A.  The Gospel includes All of Christ's Revelation, Rom. 1:16-17; 2 Pet. 1:12-15; 3:1-2. We need reminding!

    1.  Repentance, Mk. 1:14-15.

    2.  The kingdom, Mk. 1:14-15.

    3.  Grace, Acts 20:24, 32.

    4.  Obedience, Rom. 15:18-19 (Heb. 5:9; 2 Ths. 1:8).

    5.  Faithful living, Phil. 1:27.

    6.  Hope, Col. 1:23 (1:5).

  B.  The Gospel is... 1 Cor. 15:2

    1.  Preached, Gal. 1:6-8.

    2.  Received, Gal. 1:9.

    3.  Stood in, 1 Cor. 15:58.

    4.  Means of salvation, Rom. 1:16.

         -If kept in memory (obeyed), Heb. 5:9.

 

IV.  REMEMBER THE DEATH OF CHRIST.

  A.  As the Sacrifice for Our Sins, Gal. 1:4; Rom. 5:8 (Isa. 53:5).

  B.  As the Only Means of Remission of Our Sins, Heb. 9:22; 10:4, 10, 18.

  C.  The Lord's Supper Helps Us, 1 Cor. 11:24-26.

    1.  Guilty of crucifying Christ if we fail to partake properly, 11:27.

    2.  Time of remembering: Not talking, rest room runs, games, texting, etc.

 

V.  REMEMBER FROM WHERE YOU HAVE FALLEN, Rev. 2:5.

  A.  Personal Examination is Essential, 2 Cor. 13:5.

    1.  Negligent disciples will be punished, Heb. 10:26-31.

    2.  The state of a disciple in sin compels us to repent and avoid sin, 2 Pet. 2:20-22.

  B.  Repentance is Necessary, Rev. 2:5.

    1.  "And do the first works": Be restored to faithful obedience.

    2.  Let no one think he/she cannot fall, 1 Cor. 10:12.

 

Conclusion

1.  Always remember the truth we have received and by which we are established, 2 Pet. 1:12.

2.  Keep God and His will constantly in mind.
