Do Not Be Ignorant of Satan's Devices

(Part 2)

 

Intro.

1.  Review Part 1.

  a.  Satan is real, and his objective is clear (Job 1:6; 1 Pet. 5:8-9).

  b.  Christ has given us intelligence on our enemy (2 Cor. 2:11).

2.  Paul said Christians are not to be ignorant of the devil’s devices (purposes, disposition, mind).

3.  Yet, Christians fall into the traps Satan sets for the destruction of our souls.

4.  By understanding His devices, we are more equipped to find God’s ways of escape when tempted, 1 Cor. 10:13; Eph. 6:11.

 

I.  FALSE TEACHING, 2 John 9-11.

  A.  Misguided / Self-deceived / False Humility, 1 Tim. 4:1-3; Col. 2:20-23.

  B.  The Trouble with False Teaching:

    1.  It removes one from God's grace…anathema, Gal. 1:6-9.

    2.  It deceives and destroys, 2 Cor. 11:3-4, 13-15; 2 Pet. 2:1-2.

    3.  It is popular, Matt. 7:13-14; 2 Tim. 4:3-4; Jer. 5:30-31.

 

II.  CONFUSION, James 3:13-16.

  A.  The Instability of Jealousy and Self-Seeking Produces Every Vile Deed.

  B.  Leads to:

    1.  Distrust, evil surmising, malicious gossip ending in unbelief, bitterness, railings, slander, hatred, division.

    2.  Renders worship impossible, cf. 1 Cor. 11:19-21.

    3.  Makes edification impossible. Satan loves it, 1 Cor. 14:33.

  C.  Why We Must Unite in Christ, 1 Cor. 1:10.

 

III.  DISCORD AMONG BRETHREN, Genesis 13:8.

  A.  Popular Opinion, Parties, Positioning, Posturing, Sophistry, Emotional Appeals, Envy and Strife, Gal. 5:19-21; Rom. 16:18.

  B.  Destroys Unity, and Destroys Churches, Amos 3:3; Eph. 4:3.

 

IV.  FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY, 2 Cor. 10:12.

  A.  Self-Deceived, Untaught, Unstable, Shallow Emotionalism.

    1.  Security in a “name,” Rev. 3:1.

    2.  Security in advantages, Rev. 3:17.

    3.  Security in works without authority, Matt. 7:21-23.

  B.  False Security about Sin, 1 Jno. 1:8-10.

 

Conclusion

1.  Make no mistake about it, the devil’s intention is to lead you into eternal destruction.

2.  Do not be ignorant of his devices (2 Cor. 2:11).

3.  “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)
