Scripture Reading:  Romans 6:7-14

LIVING THINGS

Intro.
1.  Life is a gift from God, Acts 17:25.

2.  His Son, Jesus, offer us eternal life, Jno. 11:25-26; 6:27.

3.  Things the Bible tells us are living & how they should shape our lives.

I. THE LIVING GOD, Acts 14:15; 1 Ths. 1:9.

   -“I AM” (always existing One”), Exo. 3:13-15.

   -Man has ignored & rejected the living God for dead things, Rom. 1:18-32 (Psa. 115:3-8).

   -Dead idols…dead hearts…dead deeds of sin & evil…WRATH!

II. THE LIVING GOD SENT US A LIVING SAVIOR, Jno. 14:6.

   -Life is in Jesus Christ, Jno. 1:4; 5:26.

   -Unless we believe Jesus is from above (the Son of God), we will die in our sins, Jno. 8:23-24, 58.  (“I AM” – God with us)

   -Jesus arose from the dead, Lk. 24:5-6.

   -Believe & have life in Him, Jno. 20:30-31 (Mk. 16:16).

III. THE LIVING SAVIOR GIVES US LIVING WATER, Jno. 4:7-11, 14.

   -The water of salvation, Isa. 12:1-3; 55:1, 3.

   -Many have turned away from God, the fountain of living waters, Jer. 2:13; 17:13.

   -Will you come to Jesus & be refreshed with salvation? (Acts 3:19)

IV. THE LIVING SAVIOR HAS BUILT HIS CHURCH USING LIVING STONES, Matt. 16:18; Acts 2:36-41, 47; 1 Pet. 2:5.

   -Jesus is the living foundation stone, Matt. 16:18; 1 Pet. 2:4-6.

   -Christians are living stones in His temple (the church; saved ones), 1 Pet. 2:5.

      1)   Live holy lives (1 Pet. 2:9; 1:15-16; 2:11-12).

      2)   Become a Christian now!

V.  CHRISTIANS MUST OFFER THEMSELVES AS LIVING SACRIFICES TO GOD, Rom. 12:1-2; Lk. 9:23; Matt. 6:33.

   -Crucify self & Christ lives in us by faith, Gal. 2:20.

VI.  GOD HAS GIVEN US A LIVING WORD SO WE CAN LIVE BY FAITH, Acts 7:37-38; Heb. 1:1-2; 4:12.

   -Obey the word of God – Live by faith, Rom. 10:17; Lk. 6:46; Jas. 2:17.

   -Christ will live in our hearts by faith, Eph. 3:17.

Conclusion

1.  The living God sent a living Savior with living water to save dying sinners from eternal death (Rom. 6:23).

2.  Those who believe & obey Jesus are Christians; become living stones in the house of God (church of Christ).

3.  These offer themselves to God as living sacrifices as they live by faith according to the living word of God.

4.  How are you living?  Living to die, or living to live?!

  a.  Die to sin & live in newness of life, Rom. 6:1-4.

  b.  Live with Christ, Rom. 6:8-11.
