The Fair-Weather Christian

Intro.

1.  Definition - “An action is dependent on something" (Profitable/ Pleasant). Think of golfing in the sun vs. golfing in bad weather.

2.  Fair-Weather everything exists, spiritually too.

3.  Are you a fair-weather Christian?

I.  THE FAIR-WEATHER CHRISTIAN:

  A.  Waits for opportune times; Not found in Heb. 10:25; 2 Peter 3:18; Mark 16:15-16

  B.  Doesn’t have the correct priorities: “If things were more pleasant, I would come.”

  C.  Is dedicated when it is right for them, Not the example found in Eph. 6:10; Psa. 118:14

  D.  Is not fully invested, like the lukewarm church, Rev. 3:14-22

  E.  Puts their desires above God’s, not the example found in Psa. 133:3; Phil. 2:9-11

  F.  Shows an obvious lack of dedication, as opposed to Matt. 22:37-38; Gal. 2:20

  G.  Quits when things get hard. We must have some Spiritual-stick-to-itiveness, Gal. 6:9; 2 Thess. 3:13; Josh. 1:9

II.  THE FOUL-WEATHER CHRISTIAN:

  A.  Are not at God’s service, He is at theirs

  B.  “When I need You, I’ll find you.”

  C.  When things are good, God is not present in his mind. God must be present in our lives all the time! Psa. 16:8

III.  THE ALL-WEATHER CHRISTIAN:

  A.  Will not be shaken in the storm, 2 Pet. 3:14-18

  B.  Will keep God as their number one priority, Matt. 6:33

  C.  Will not let bad weather stop them, Jas. 1:12

  D.  Will remain constant throughout, Gal. 6:9

  E.  Is a role model for all Christians, 1 Tim. 4:12; Matt. 5:6
