Scripture Reading: Psalm 118:21-26

This is the Day the Lord has Made

 

Intro.

1.  “This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it” (Psa. 118:24).

2.  Time is swiftly passing; God will teach us to number our days and get wisdom if we will learn from Him, Psa. 90:10-12. (Jas. 4:13-15)

3.  Consider some “days” the Lord has made.

 

I.  THE DAY OF CREATION, Gen. 2:4. (Finished in 6 literal days, 2:1-2)

  -God’s ownership and sovereignty over world is complete, Acts 17:24.

  -God’s power upholds all things every moment of every day, Col. 1:17.

  -Demands our faith, honor and thankfulness, Rom. 1:20-22.

 

II. THE DAY OF SALVATION, Psa. 118:21-26.

  A.  Establishment of the Kingdom of God, cf. Matt. 21:42-45. How?

  B.  The Rock (Stone) of Our Salvation: Christ, 118:22; Acts 4:10-11.

    1.  Rejected: Christ’s humiliation, Psa. 118:22 (death, Isa. 53:3-8).

    2.  God has laid the chief cornerstone:

      a.  Christ’s resurrection, Psa. 2:6-7; Acts 13:32-33.

      b.  Christ’s exaltation, Acts 2:33-36 (Psa. 110:1).

    3.  This is the Lord’s doing, 118:23-26; Acts 4:11-12.

  C.  This Salvation is Available Now, Titus 2:11-12.

    1.  Today is the day of salvation, 2 Cor. 6:1-2.

    2.  Today, do not harden your heart, Heb. 3:7-8, 12-13.

    3.  Why are you waiting? Acts 22:16

 

III. THE LORD’S DAY, Rev. 1:10.

  A.  First Day of Salvation in Christ, Acts 2:1 (Lev. 23:15-16), 21, 36-41.

  B.  Day of Worship for Christians, Acts 20:7.

    1.  The Lord’s supper.

    2.  Hear God’s word taught.

    3.  Give joyfully and thankfully, 1 Cor. 16:2 (2 Cor. 9:6-7).

    4.  Sing and pray, 1 Cor. 14:15-16.

    5.  Stir up one another, Heb. 10:24-25.

  -Are we busy doing other things than His?

 

IV. THE DAY OF YOUR DEATH, Heb. 9:27.

  A.  The Way of All the Earth, 1 Kgs. 2:1-2. (Certainty of death)

    1.  No return (Job 16:22); return to dust, (Gen. 3:19); soul required (Lk. 12:20).

    2.  You will die, Psa. 89:48. Are you ready? Lk. 16:22-23, 30-31

      a.  If you are not a Christian, you are not ready to die.

      b.  If you are being unfaithful to Christ, you are not ready to die.

      c.  If you are not doing what you know you should do, you are not ready to die (Jas. 4:17).

      d.  If you are holding malice in your heart, you are not ready to die.

    3.  Who is ready to die? 2 Tim. 4:6-8

 

V.  THE LAST DAY, Jno. 6:38-40.

  A.  The Day of Resurrection, Jno. 6:44-45; 5:28-29.

    1.  Eternal life, Jno. 6:54 to those who “eat” the bread of Life.

    2.  Eternal condemnation, Matt. 7:22-23 (that day);

  B.  The Day of Judgment, Jno. 12:48 (last day). “Day of the Lord” (2 Pet. 3:10: day of wrath and salvation)

    1.  Appointed by God, Acts 17:30-31; Rev 20:12-15.

    2.  According to our lives, 2 Cor. 5:10.

    3.  Persuade people to repent, 2 Cor. 5:11; Heb. 10:31; 12:29.

      a.  Disobedient: Eternal destruction, 2 Ths. 1:8-9 (hell).

      b.  Obedient: Eternal life, Heb. 5:8-9.

 

Conclusion

1.  Christians are “sons of the day” – live watchful, sober lives and obtain salvation through Jesus Christ! 1 Ths. 5:5-10

2.  Be wise and live each day unto the Lord.
